Strassman’s “Be Careful What You Wish For” show is everything Sale wished for.

The world’s most in demand ventriloquist, David Strassman, landed in EBBWEC last Wednesday to a warm reception.
Alternate realities and parallel universes are just the humdrum in Strassman’s “Be Careful What You Wish For” show, which sold out in December 2011. The audience were awestruck as Strassman manipulated his puppets, but it became unclear just who manipulated whom, as the puppets, Chuck in particular, progressively infiltrated Strassman’s mind.  The outstanding animatronics and projected graphics were almost as impressive as the ventriloquist’s skills, as he controlled the puppets from across the stage.
The performance was thoughtfully adapted to suit an Australian audience, with the addition of tactful in-house gags and Koala Bear, the Australian alter ego of another of Strassman’s puppets, Sid Beaverman. Despite a minor slip up in referring to Koala as a “bear” (which was promptly rectified) and a few limp jokes by Strassman’s assistant A.N.G.E.L, the performance was full of side-splitters, skilful puppetry and an abundance of raw talent.
Truly an experience, “Strasso” will entertain Australian audiences for years to come; mind-bending humour at its best.

Finders Keepers 2011 - Australia Council for the Arts marketing summit

Hi Folks,

I’m in Perth all this week for the Australia Council for the Arts Marketing Summit, the APACA conference and Long Paddock Performing Arts Touring Forum. It’s going to be a busy, busy week.

So far today we’ve heard from Jamie Oliver’s online brand manager on the importance of digital communities, online interaction and allowing people to discover the content for themselves. Some inspiring stuff in there too about ‘high on food’ - a drug and alcohol rehabilitation project using food production and culinary skills to deliver 75% success rates. Some interesting food for thought, pun intended.

We’ve also heard from the Australia Council for the Arts regarding their new research into connecting with audiences online. http://connectarts.australiacouncil.gov.au/ The arts don’t often get credit for it, but we are amongst the best examples of industries making meaningful connections with their audiences using social media and digital communication. Why aren’t we being cited as best practice examples? Are we no good at spruiking our achievements, or are we overlooked for flashier, more consumer sales driven industries? (I’m looking at you, old spice guy).

We’re now looking at audience research methods - how to select a sample of our audience that is reflective of the whole picture, not just our most ardent supporters. should make for some interersting survey monkey wrangling when I get back to the office!

I’ll be updating during the week as much for my own notes as anything else, but fi you’d like to follow along on twitter you can see the discussions from the marketing summit on twitter by following #findkeep11

Until next update!
